"Not for that we have dominion over your faith,
but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand."
2 Corinthians 1:24

"Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation..."

      alt

In 2 Corinthians 6:2 we read that today is the day of salvation.  Right now!  Not tomorrow, next week, or even when you are older, but at this very moment you can be saved.  Have you settled the question of your soul's eternal destiny?  Can you answer the question: Are you saved?

Depressed?

Although we are careful to hide it, in our heart of hearts, we are almost all depressed and discouraged.

We are born into a world that is a trail of tears, must toil to support ourselves, and have nothing to look forward to but sickness and inevitably, death.  Such is man's plight.

Even worse, we have the constant witness of our consciences against us for the many wicked deeds we have done that we would like to forget but cannot.

Knowing these things, philosopher Henry David Thoreau rightly observed that, "Most men live lives of quiet desperation."

There is, however, good news.

The root source of all of life's problems is man's sin -- a problem we all have.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23)

Sin has separated us from God, and thus we are enemies of God and destined for the eternal punishment of Hell.  It is our secret awareness (although we may deny it) of these truths, that produces a guilty conscience and depression.

The solution to these problems is the gospel of Christ:

Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1Cor 15:3-4)

The blood that Christ shed for your sins will save you, if you put your trust in it.  It is not your works that save you, but what He has already done for you.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, (Titus 3:5)

As a sinner, you are an enemy of God, but through the cross of Christ you can be reconciled.

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: (Col 1:21-22)

The cure for depression and discouragement is to trust Christ for the forgiveness of sins.  Christ's shed blood will wash away all of your iniquity and remove the sting of a guilty conscience.

What to expect when visiting...

We understand visiting a new church can be uncomfortable.  So, we have designed this message to address some of the questions you may have before you chose to visit with us.

We have two meeting times on Sunday mornings: 10:00am & 11:00am.  Both offer a similar format: announcements, singing of hymns, prayer, and Bible study.

Announcements generally consist of church business, radio news and updates, Bible conference information, as well as updates on ministries across the country.

The Bible says in Colossians 3:16 that we are to teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.  Since the purpose of music is to teach and admonish, we have created a booklet filled with doctrinally sound, Bible-oriented hymns that we use for singing.  At this time, our group currently sings acapella.  However, in the future we may add piano/keyboard or other methods of music to our singing.

Prayer is an important aspect of Bible study.  We are instructed to give thanks in everything "for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" (1Thess 5:18).  Thus, we open and close most of our messages with prayer to God, thanking him for what he has done.

Bible study is the focus of our meetings.  Bring your Bible... and be ready to use it!  2Timothy 2:15 says to "study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."  We are instructed to study God's word, so studying is what we do!  Each meeting you'll be presented with a thoughtful, exhaustive study of the Bible that encourages you to jump in and find out what God says in His word.

The content of the 10:00 and 11:00 teachings are always different.  The 10:00 teaching time concludes at approximately 10:50, with a 10 minute break before the 11:00 meeting.  We do our best to stay on schedule, however, there are times when the teachings go longer than expected.  At the end of each teaching, the doors of the meeting room will be opened so you will know when the teacher has finished.  But, don't let that stop you from entering -- join us anytime you arrive!

We currently do not offer separate classes for children and youth.  Our children and youth are encouraged to learn along with Dad and Mom.  Sometimes, though, children need to wiggle and giggle.  We understand that!  In the event noises are too disruptive, parents may take them out in the hall or to a nearby meeting room that is empty.  And, chances are, you are likely to find another parent to fellowship with until the meeting concludes.

If your study is interrupted or you would like to hear the teaching again, most of our teachings are available online.  You can find them by clicking here: Online Messages, or the "Columbus Bible Church Sunday Teachings" on the Online Messages link.

If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

We’re glad you have visited our website, and we look forward to meeting you in person!
